Monday, Jan. 28, 2013

PULLMAN, Wash. – Premieres of oboe music by Thai composers, and brief discussions of how they reflect features in traditional Thai music, will be presented in a free, public concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Bryan Hall at Washington State University.
Keri McCarthy, oboist and WSU associate professor, commissioned the works during her time in Thailand as a 2011 Fulbright scholar. With Bethany Schoeff-Cotter, oboe instructor at Eastern Washington University, McCarthy will present the United States premiere of these pieces for two oboes.
McCarthy also will perform the world premiere of "My Spirit is Dancing,” by Malaysian composer Yii Kah Hoe.
