Jazz vocalist Jamie Shew in concert with faculty

Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012

PULLMAN, Wash. - Acclaimed Los Angeles-based jazz vocalist Jamie Shew, a Washington State University alumna, will be featured in a free concert at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Kimbrough Concert Hall at WSU. Songs will be from her latest CD, "A Place for Me,” on the Bluejazz label.

"Jamie Shew has a strong, clear and attractive voice, sounding very comfortable in all registers,” wrote jazz reviewer Scott Yanow. "In ‘A Place For Me,' she shows that she can swing at every tempo, sounds at home interacting with jazz musicians and is a subtle but creative improviser.”

Shew is coordinator of vocal jazz studies at Fullerton College. She has performed with Nancy King, Sunny Wilkinson, New York Voices, Steve Christofferson, Royce Campbell, Bruce Babad, Tom Knific, Steve Zegree, Kendall Kay, Mike Scott, Roger Shew, Matt Politano, Michele Weir and Josh Nelson.

She will be accompanied by her husband, award-winning bassist Roger Shew, also a WSU alumnus, and guitarist Mike Scott. The concert will feature guest appearances by WSU jazz faculty members: saxophonists Greg Yasinitsky and Dave Hagelganz and drummer David Jarvis.

The concert is made possible in part by a grant from the WSU Visual, Literary and Performing Arts Committee.
