Jo HockenhullPULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Museum of Art announces a retrospective journey in a Fine Arts Faculty Focus Exhibition by artist Jo Hockenhull, Aug. 20-Sept. 22.

An opening reception will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, in the Museum of Art Gallery, with a lecture to follow at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium.  Admission to the museum is free.

The Museum of Art has a long-standing tradition of presenting work by department of fine arts faculty members.  Since 2004, these exhibits have alternated large group shows with a bi-annual exhibit showcasing an recently retired individual faculty member.

Jo Hockenhull came to WSU in 1973 as a printmaker and was the first woman hired to teach in the WSU fine arts department. Her artwork reflects particular times in her life -- who she was and what interested her at the moment.  She has often incorporated scientific research into her work, with ideas of humans in relation to the natural world, and more recently, ideas of "loss” or "regret” as inevitable occurrences of life.

Prints, paintings, and some aluminum sculptures and collages make for a diverse and interesting retrospective of this artist’s work.

The Museum of Art is located on Wilson Road across from Martin Stadium in the Fine Arts Center on the WSU Pullman campus. Gallery hours are Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays and closed on Sundays.  For more information please contact the museum at 509-335-1910 or visit our website at http://museum.wsu.edu.

This exhibit is funded by the Samuel H. and Patricia W. Smith Arts Endowment Fund.
