PULLMAN, Wash.—WSU’s new incoming class of students will be arriving in a few short weeks and help is needed to give them a proper welcome.
Well over 175 people have already signed-up to participate in Move-in 2012. However, more participants are needed to ensure a smooth move-in process.
The Move-in program places groups of faculty, staff, students and community members in residence halls where they will greet new freshman and transfer students upon their arrival to campus in the fall and help them move their belongings into their rooms.
Mel Morgan, assistant dean of students, said it is a perfect way to show new students and their families what world class and face-to-face really means at WSU.
"It is tremendously fun because there’s so much excitement when new students arrive,” said Morgan. "We are helping them begin the next big chapter in their lives.”
WSU student Justin Ramos has already signed up to help with the Move-in and has been asking his friends to join him.
"This is a unique opportunity to help the incoming class and do something positive for our community,” said Ramos. "It’s important for new students, who often arrive on campus alone, to experience our positive atmosphere and make a personal connection.”
Shifts are four-hours long on either Saturday, Aug. 11 or Sunday, Aug. 12. To sign-up, visit http://deanofstudents.wsu.edu/movein2012. Groups are also encouraged to participate. Each person who helps will receive a free t-shirt.
Morgan said her goal is to triple the number of volunteers this year making it the largest Move-in program in WSU’s history. "If you have helped with for Move-in before, this one will be much larger in scope,” she said.
Interested faculty and staff are asked to coordinate with their appropriate department administrator regarding scheduling. Contact Human Resource Services with questions regarding comp time, flexing schedules and other options.
