PULLMAN, Wash. – About 400 youth from around the state will discover options for creating a positive future at the Washington State University Extension Summer Teen Conference.

This three-day program on the Pullman campus features more than 60 workshops, hands-on activities, college/career information and recreation. Teens will learn about educational options, how to develop life skills for successful opportunities and being responsible young adults.

On Sunday, June 24, teens will take part in a natural disaster readiness activity to help them identify and prepare for natural disasters that could affect their communities. In keeping with the Teen Conference theme of "Join the Revolution of Responsibility,” youth will develop personal disaster readiness plans and preparedness kits. The activity takes place at 7:45 p.m. in the field above Terrell Library.

A giant banana split, over 400 feet, will be created and consumed on Monday, June 25 during the afternoon break at 3:20 on the field by the CUB.

Keynote speakers include leadership expert Amy Gallimore on Sunday, June 24 at 6:00 p.m.; author and motivator Hoan Do on Monday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. Tyler Presnell, who, at 16, survived a nearly fatal car crash and inspires youth and others to drive with care.  All speakers will present in the CUB Ballroom.

During the conference students experience college life by sampling courses, living in dorms and learning from WSU instructors, industry leaders and career advisors.  Workshops include forensic science, film and animation, robotics, advocacy training, agronomy, resume writing, paying for college, fitness and whole brain thinking styles.

The conference, which began in 1927, is open to all youth entering grades 8 through 12.
