Five Cougar baseball players selected in pro draft

SECAUCUS, N.J. - Washington State University baseball players have fared well this year in the annual Major League Baseball draft, with five of them receiving contracts as of Wednesday afternoon.

Selected so far are:

  • Jones tags another hit
    First baseman Taylor Ard, 7th round, Seattle Mariners

  • Outfielder Derek Jones, 8th round, Colorado Rockies

  • Second baseman Tommy Richards, 24th round, Baltimore Orioles

  • Outfielder Kyle Johnson, 25th round, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

  • Third baseman Patrick Claussen, 34th round, Miami Marlins
 
"This is the best draft for me since I have been at Washington State," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "All of these guys worked very hard to have a professional opportunity and each one of them deserves it."
