PULLMAN, Wash. – Brad LeaMaster has been appointed State Veterinarian by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. LeaMaster will be returning to the ODA after serving in the position in 2003 and will succeed Don Hansen, who is retiring after eight years.

 

LeaMaster received his Ph.D. in veterinary medicine from Washington State University in 1982. Since 2004, he has worked for the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service as an area emergency coordinator, the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, and as a veterinary extension specialist at the University of Hawaii.

 

"We are pleased to have someone of Dr. LeaMaster’s experience and expertise to step right in and carry on such an important responsibility,” said Katy Coba, the ODA Director. "We are especially fortunate since Dr. LeaMaster has held the position in the past. He knows ODA, the livestock industry, and the issues. I expect him to hit the ground running.”

 

The State Veterinarian’s Office monitors infectious animal diseases in Oregon and maintains disease control plans throughout the state.
