PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine will provide limited care for pets of homeless and very low-income owners noon-4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Riverpoint campus in Spokane, Wash. The WSU Veterinary Specialty Clinic is located at E. 218 Spokane Falls Blvd. A map is available here.

Care will be limited to a physical examination, vaccinations/boosters and a deworming if indicated by a fecal test.

The event provides an opportunity for WSU veterinary students to increase their skills under the guidance of veterinarians from WSU and the community.

Services for up to 100 dogs and 100 cats will be provided. The team of veterinarians and students also will examine "pocket pets,” such as gerbils, Guinea pigs, hamsters and ferrets.  Ferrets are the only exotic pets eligible to receive vaccinations.

Owners are asked to bring their healthy, friendly pets properly restrained in a crate, cage or on a leash and to bring any health records they may have for their animals. Those wishing to have their pet examined for possible deworming must bring a fresh stool sample.

The annual event is funded in part by the American Animal Hospital Association.
