Clean-tech illustrations earn WSU top honors
Tuesday, Mar. 6, 2012
PULLMAN, Wash. - A series of four illustrations created by Washington State University senior graphic designer David Hoyt to highlight clean-technology research recently received a Grand Gold award in the 2012 communication awards competition sponsored by District VIII of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
The award recognizes the top entry in the photography and illustration category of the competition. The honor marks the fifth consecutive year WSU marketing and communications efforts have been honored with a Grand Gold.
The illustrations Hoyt created were incorporated in print ads published in Washington State Magazine, WSU’s primary external communications publication.
The illustrations address university research on the power grid, earth-friendly building materials and clean-energy policies. Each illustration portrays a metamorphosis between a man-made object and an organic object and asks the reader to consider thought-provoking solutions to energy challenges.
In their evaluation, judges wrote: "The illustrations are highly creative with a strong cohesiveness and style. The images are clean and well defined, illustrating clear and concise concepts. The exceptionally creative illustrations and eye-catching dichotomy between nature and technology made this an outstanding entry.”
The annual CASE competition recognizes excellence in marketing and communications efforts in the district, which is comprised of 130 educational institutions in the western U.S. and Canada. The nonprofit organization supports the advancement efforts of educational institutions and is comprised of professionals from the fields of alumni relations, communications, marketing and fundraising.
WSU’s marketing and communications staff also won 10 other awards in this year’s competition.
