PULLMAN, Wash. – Dozens of cardboard boxes were fashioned into makeshift furniture and a small shelter today (Tuesday) at Washington State University.

A project of GIVE, an Associated Students of Washington State University committee, and the Center for Civic Engagement, Cardboard City is meant to be a reminder during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week that homelessness is a continuing issue, even on the Palouse.

Sophomore Kristy Hornland, GIVE financial chair, said the display is intended to inspire people to get involved with their communities.

"We want to keep people aware and really want them to stay involved in the community and realize that maybe there are things that they could be doing,” she said. "And those efforts would be really greatly appreciated by the community, even in Pullman.”
