PULLMAN, Wash. – Nov. 13-19 is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, and the Washington State University Center for Civic Engagement will provide opportunities for faculty, staff, students and community members to engage in service and education.
The CCE and partner organizations will host a variety of public events including food and supplies drives, a debate on the Occupy movement, a hunger banquet, a cardboard city and service projects. For details, go to http://cce.wsu.edu/nhhaw.
With the economic downturn, more and more people who do not fit the stereotype of homelessness are losing their homes. With the decrease in affordable housing and with minimum wages not paralleling inflation, more people are fighting to survive and finding themselves below the poverty line.
