Monday, Jan. 3, 2011

PULLMAN - Junior Crimson Girls dance team - a new WSU Athletics program featuring clinics for girls kindergarten-eighth grade and a performance at a Cougar men’s basketball game - will begin Jan. 15. Space is limited to 40 participants.

It’s a community outreach effort of the WSU Spirit Program, which includes the Crimson Girls dance team, university cheerleaders and Butch, the Cougar mascot. In addition, funds raised will help the Spirit Program pay for the Crimson Girls to take part in national competitions.

Jan. 15 is the deadline to register. Clinics will be noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. A final clinic will be March 5 before the halftime performance for the UCLA-WSU men’s basketball game; times will be announced later.

The clinics cost $90; there is also a one-time $60 fee for uniform and pom poms, said Tandi Ball, Spirit Program coordinator and Cougar head cheer coach.

Clinics and performances also are in the works for the 2011 football and 2011-2012 men’s basketball seasons, she said.
