Stadium Way restricted, parking changes slated
Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010
PULLMAN - In an effort to continue to improve pedestrian safety and security, WSU officials will establish a temporary restricted traffic zone on Stadium Way between Grimes Way and Orchard Dr./Colorado St. during Homecoming Day and for all home football game days this fall.
From two and a half hours before kickoff time until two hours after the game’s conclusion, access to the restricted portion of Stadium Way will be limited to emergency vehicles, transit vehicles, stadium-support vehicles and vehicles displaying disability permits intending to drop off persons with disabilities.
Chris Boyan, assistant director for WSU Parking, said the restrictions improve pedestrian safety and access, consolidate exit traffic flow from campus side streets and parking areas, encourage the use of public transit, and improve perimeter control and security at Martin Stadium.
Parking
Boyan said also that campus visitors should be aware that ongoing construction work and parking lot closures and revisions have led to a number of parking restrictions and changes to which specific lots will be made available for game day parking. For that reason, WSU recommends that visitors review the university’s General Football Parking Map online at parking.wsu.edu prior to their arrival on campus.
Football fans are encouraged to arrive early, plan ahead for parking and traffic challenges and make use of free public transit shuttles on game days, he said.
Visitors also should be aware that, for safety reasons related to emergency vehicle access, the Pullman Police Department places particular emphasis on enforcing parking codes in the College Hill area of the city on the north side of campus during home football games.
Free bus service
As in past years, Pullman Transit will provide free transit service on all home football game days. In addition to providing normal Saturday service on the North and South routes operating from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m., Pullman Transit will also provide the Express 2, A, and H routes. The H route is a special game day route which combines Pullman Transit’s I and J routes. The additional service will start three hours prior to kickoff and run continuously until 1.5 hours after the game.
The WSU Visitor Center in downtown Pullman is open for every home football game at least four hours prior to kickoff. Visitors can park in the Park and Ride near the center and catch the bus to Martin Stadium.
Following the game, all transit pick up locations will begin on the closed portion of Stadium Way by the east end zone of the stadium.
Disability parking will be available for game patrons in the Fine Arts Garage. A disability parking permit, placard, or plate is required.
Church parking
Although a donation is requested, parking during home football games is available at Community Congregational United Church of Christ, 525 NE Campus Ave.; Concordia Lutheran Church,1015 NE Orchard Drive; Presbyterian Church of Pullman,1630 NE Stadium Way, Sacred Heart Church, 400 NE Ash Street.
RV parking
All recreational vehicles are required to park in a designated RV lot. Those parked in lots which are not RV designated will be asked to relocate.
