Budget limits freshman numbers
Enrollment growth projected at all campuses but Pullman

Fall semester classes began at four WSU campuses across the state Monday, and WSU officials are expecting solid enrollments universitywide, despite the continued impacts of legislative budget cuts and the economic recession.
“There is no better institution for students than Washington State University. We are pleased that there continues to be a strong demand for a WSU degree,” said President Elson S. Floyd. “On balance, we are doing exactly what we promised our students and their parents - providing them with a high quality education.”
WSU is expecting a first-time freshman class of no more than 3,200 students at its Pullman campus. That will be slightly less than the record totals of the last two years; budget reductions forced university officials to limit the size of the freshman class.
Official enrollment totals for all of WSU’s campuses and its distance degree programs will be available following the 10th day of classes.
WSU is projecting growth on the campuses in Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver.
WSU Spokane shows continued strength in enrollment with total numbers remaining around 1,350 - close to the same as last fall.
The Masters in Health Policy and Administration program is expecting its largest incoming class at an estimate of 21 students. The Interdisciplinary Design Institute will have a 20 doctor of design students and 24 master of interior design students, making it one of the largest groups the institute has seen in a number of years.
WSU Spokane is expecting 37 international students, one of whom is a Fulbright Scholar in the Health Policy and Administration program. They represent 16 countries, with the first ever international student from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
WSU Tri-Cities is anticipating an enrollment record for the third year in a row, with more than 1,500 students expected for fall semester. That includes an estimated 7 percent increase in new students.
WSU Vancouver is expecting an increase in enrollment for fall 2010 with more than 3,000 students enrolled for the first time.
