PULLMAN - Strong winds and rough waters didn't stop 18 teams and 300 participants in canoes made of concrete from hitting the Snake River at Chief Timothy Park on Saturday, April 24 near Clarkston.

The race is part of the 2010 American Society of Civil Engineers National Concrete Canoe Competition. Teams competed in men’s and women’s events, fighting the wind and choppy water to reach the finish line without capsizing.

WSU came in at third place overall, just behind the University of Washington and University of Idaho.
