Window on partnership
Student designs compete to help area merchants

“Give Pullman a Makeover!” is the theme of WSU assistant professor Meriem Chida’s
visual merchandising class this semester, and the best student work will be on display April 3-5 during Mom’s Weekend 2009.
Chida worked with the Pullman Chamber of Commerce to recruit eight Pullman business owners for this real-world experience. About 30 teams of four students each will be pitching their ideas for window makeovers at one of the following businesses: At Home Design, Atom Heart, Design Effects, Global Travel, Lily Bee’s, Moments in Time and Wild Ivy.
Students will design a window display, then present their proposals in a scientific/trade fair-style event on March 27 at WSU. At the event, retail business owners will select and announce the winning window makeover to be installed for Mom’s Weekend.

"This is a great way for the students to see what it is like to work in a business setting, with real world limitations," said Tammy Lewis, Pullman Chamber executive director. "It’s great for Pullman businesses, too. They are able to benefit from the fresh perspective the students bring. It’s a great partnership.”
