Wines that really sparkle topic of seminar

Monday, Nov. 2, 2009

RICHLAND — Set the bubbles free at the sparkling wine seminar this Thursday, Nov. 5 at WSU Tri-Cities.

“Sparkling Wines: For Special Occasions and for Everyday Enjoyment” will be led by Wine Press Northwest editor Andy Perdue with Domaine Ste. Michelle winemaker Rick Casqueiro.

Learn about the different types of sparkling wines — like Brut and Extra Dry — and why it’s not all called Champagne. See how to open a bottle of sparkling wine and experience why bubbly is affordable and approachable year-round.

The seminar starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Consolidated Information Center, 2770 University Drive. Cost is $35 and participants must be at least 21 years old. Preregistration is required, call 509-372-7606 or register online at http://www.tricity.wsu.edu/wine/.

The 2009-2010 Community Wine Education Series is offered by WSU Tri-Cities and the WSU Viticulture and Enology program.

Upcoming seminars include:
• Nov. 19 — “Pairing Food and Wine for Holiday Gatherings”
• Jan. 28 — “Wine 101,” an introduction to wine tasting
