Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009

By Frances Ryan, College of Business

PULLMAN — The Washington Center for Real Estate Research and the Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate in the College of Business at WSU will host its inaugural Real Estate Lecture at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3 in Todd Hall room 276. The lecture will feature Dr. Clark L. Maxam, assistant professor of finance at the College of Business and Economics at the University of Idaho.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Maxam’s speech, “Bulls, Bears & Blow-Ups: Understanding the Financial Crisis,” will cover some of the challenging issues and decisions in the real estate and financial markets leading up to, and including, the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage industry. From 2005 to 2008 Maxam saw first-hand the goals and attitudes of the industry while working at Braddock Financial Corporation where he directed the research in housing markets and structured finance underlying their $2.5 billion in mortgage backed securities.

“We are fortunate to have Dr. Maxam speak to us. With his experience, the lecture will be extremely topical in light of everything that has happened in the real estate market in the last year, and what we can expect to see looking forward,” said Glenn Crellin, director of the Washington Center for Real Estate Research.
