Aleksandr Lyakhov
Aleksandr Lyakhov was born in Biskek, Kyrgystan and spent the first five years of his life there before moving with his family to Spokane. He found himself in a unique situation where he was a child of two worlds—a challenge in terms of where he fit in and what the world had in store for him. During a time of reflection he realized it was not about what the world could give him, but what he could give back. So, he decided to give back through a career in nursing. Holding various leadership positions (currently student ambassador and senior class president) and being actively involved as a student, he aimed to be a positive influence. Throughout his time at WSU, he found that he fit in quite well just by being involved.
“I feel very fortunate to have been at WSU Spokane and to have received such a well-rounded experience,” said Lyakhov. “With a rigorous program and a supportive faculty, I have kept striving to become a better person, student, and professional. Right now, I cannot imagine where I would be or what I would be doing, had my family not moved to Spokane.”
Lyakhov plans to keep giving back and staying involved, and in the future, after gaining more experience as a nurse, he’ll pursue a master's degree, and perhaps become a nurse practitioner.
