Chima Nwachukwu
Chima (CHEE’-mah) Nwachukwu (wah-CHOO’-kuu) is an example of a truly extraordinary Cougar. Balancing his many extra-curricular activities and studies, Nwachukwu has maintained a 3.87 GPA and listed on the President’s Honor Roll since he arrived at Washington State University from Texas.
Nwachukwu played safety on the WSU football team all four years of his college experience, and held the honors of president of the Student Athlete Advisory Board; president of the WSU Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science national honor society; and co-chair of the PAC-10 Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He also helped coordinate the “Cougs Helping Haiti” fundraiser, participated in the Reading Buddy program and volunteered his time with numerous student recruitment activities.
Nwachukwu was named three times to the PAC-10 Conference All-Academic First Team and two times to the ESPN Academic All-America Second Team by the Sports Information Directors of America. This semester, Nwachukwu interned for U.S. Senator Chuck Shumer of New York in Washington, D.C.
After graduation, Nwachukwu will serve the next two years teaching history and government to high school juniors at a charter school in Chicago with the “Teach for America” program. Once finished, Nwachukwu plans to attend law school and possibly a career as a federal prosecutor.
