Marianne Groves

Marianne Groves came to Washington State University after spending six years in the Navy, where she served on an aircraft carrier as a nuclear reactor operator and electronics technician.

Growing up in Washington State, Groves always felt a deep love of nature and the outdoors, and she chose WSU because of its strong programs in biology, ecology and evolutionary biology.

While at WSU, Groves received the University Achievement Award scholarship, a Boeing Endowed Scholarship, and was listed in the President’s Honor Roll every semester. She is a member of the zoology club and has volunteered at the humane society. She has been offered and accepted a position with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to begin after she graduates.

Groves and her fiancé, who works in WSU’s Radiation Safety Office, became engaged on March 4. Knowing of her special love of cedar trees, he proposed to her in front of the largest cedar tree east of the Cascades in the old grove cedar forest in Elk River. They plan to marry in September.
