Alan J. Emanuel

Alan Emanuel completed a rigorous International Baccalaureate program in high school. He was also a member of a variety of musical groups, the National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Emanuel arrived at Washington State University, determined to certify in a challenging major that would prepare him for admission to a neuroscience graduate program. His high school accomplishments prepared him for the demanding schedule of completing an undergraduate-degree program and the strenuous work in a laboratory.
As a freshman, Emanuel excelled in challenging courses like calculus, inorganic chemistry and several junior-level classes. Not only did he take advanced courses his freshman year, but also participated in musical groups like the WSU Wind Symphony.
Emanuel also joined the laboratory of Sue Ritter as a freshman at WSU.
“He is the most outstanding student I have worked with at either the graduate or undergraduate level,” Ritter said.
Emanuel has been vice president and president of the Neuroscience Club at WSU. He developed an elementary school outreach program where members of the club would give presentations about the brain and also involved the club in the opening of the Brain Power Exhibit at the Palouse Discovery Science Center.
Emanuel has already published one paper and is currently in the review process for his independent research project by the journal “Endocrinology”. His passion and dedication to his extracurricular activities and academics have allowed Emanuel to shine as an extraordinary student. He is expected to graduate summa cum laude and has received a NSF graduate research fellowship. He will attend Harvard University to pursue a doctorate degree in neuroscience.
